Nandos

Nando's is a fast food specializing in flamed-grilled chicken, spiced with Peri Peri (or Piri-Piri). Peri-Peri is a spice also known as "African Devil", and the humor we employed for Nandos is just as spicy. We made it a plucky, fun and irreverent brand with the courage to do what most other brands would balk at. Always commenting, always poking fun.

Sandton, an affluent suburb within greater Johannesburg, is as well known for it's breast augmentation as what Miami, Florida is. Nando's sells real breasts, and we simply wanted to make that point.
"Real Breasts"

Nando's spice, Piri-Piri, also known as the "African Devil" presents it's "spicy" side to the conservatively-minded. These were give-away bumper stickers sending up the popular "fish" symbol.
"Burn Again"

The 1996 African Cup of Nations was the 20th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Nigeria withdrew from the tournament at the final moment, giving Nandos the opportunity to poke a little fun at the Nigerians. (South Africa won its first championship that year).
"Chickens

We literally stopped traffic with this next one.
Concerned people, irritated people and delighted people either stopped to gape, or called in to comment. By arrangement, the media company had a smoke machine hidden in the VW, constantly emitting smoke while being towed through the city, or stopped on verges.
A "warning" to all those who dared taste such spicy hot chicken. It made talk shows and the press.
